IN MEMORIAM: Mykola Baldeckyj

Mykola Baldeckyj fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday morning, October 9, 2024. He would have been 94 on Oct. 23rd.

May his memory be eternal! Вічна йому пам’ять. Царство небесне!

Mykola Baldeckyj was born in 1930 in Wowkowynski in Khmelnitskyi region, Ukraine. He was a very active member of parish council and the St. Volodymyr Brotherhood.

Mykola Baldeckyj and Mrs. Rodak founded the Simon Petlura foundation that raised funds for bursaries. He was a member of Ukrainian Canadian Congress council for many years and an active member of the Toronto Folk Art Council for many years.

Mykola Baldeckyj started his first dance group when he first came to Canada in 1958. And was the director and choreographer for the Vesnianka Dance group for over 60 years. Besides the dance school, he taught dancing at many elementary schools and churches in Toronto. He was a very active member of the youth organization - ODUM.

He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Hazel; his daughters, Maria and Elaine; his grandchildren, Adrianna, Katherine and Tamara; and also Taras Stadnyk. He leaves behind family in Ukraine, England and extended family in Toronto.

The visitation was held on Tuesday, October 15th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Turner & Porter - Neweduk - Erin Mills Chapel (1981 Dundas St W, Mississauga, ON L5K1R2). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 16th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Ukraine Chapel (1280 Dundas St W, Oakville, ON L6M4H9). A burial was held on Wednesday, October 16th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery (1280 Dundas St W, Oakville, ON L6M4H9).
