IN MEMORIAM: Nadia Pawlyk (UPDATED)

May 11, 1930 - July 28, 2023

Nadia Pawlyk fell asleep in the Lord on July 28, 2023. She was a longtime member of St. Volodymyr Cathedral and a very active member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association - Kniahynia Olha chapter.

May her memory be eternal! Вічна їй пам’ять. Царство небесне!

Nadia was born on May 11, 1930 in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. She left Ukraine in November 1947 with her parents, Artem and Maria Horobetz and older sister Tanya, and settled in England.

For a number of years Nadia worked in Liverpool, England, until her parents decided to come to Canada. The family sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on a Greek boat called the T.S.S. Columbia and arrived in Canada in May of 1956. The family settled in Oshawa where she worked at General Motors as a sewing machine operator.

She met her husband, Ivan, at a dance and they were married on April 27, 1963. They had two sons - Victor and Peter.

Nadia loved tending to her vegetable garden and flowers, and taking care of her budgies and canaries. She loved sharing her cooking with her friends and neighbours.

Nadia was very active in the parish of St. Volodymyr Cathedral for many years as well as in the ladies group - Ukrainian Women’s Association - Kn. Olha.
