Women Through the Lens of Pentecost
As excerpted from the Coptic Orthodox Diocese for the Southern United States website.
How does Christianity view a woman?
God created Adam in His image. Then God created Eve to be "a helper comparable to him" (Gen 2:18). All through the Bible we notice the role of a woman either in the Old Testament as a prophetess (Ex 15:20; Jud 4:4) a leader in war and a judge (Jud 4:4-16). Our Lord Jesus Christ praised the widow who offered the two mites and the woman of Canaan (Mt 15:28). He had a long conversation with the Samaritan woman to bring her to confess her sins, repent and become an evangelist proclaiming His name. He also defended the woman who poured fragrant oil on His head (Mt 26:10).and caused her deed to be honored throughout the ages along with the preaching of the gospel. On the day of the Pentecost the gift of the Holy Spirit was given equally to both men and women without discrimination (Acts 2:17).
