BOOK: Launch of Graphic Novel “Red Harvest”

Thur. Nov. 30/2023 — 7pm | St. Volodymyr Institute

Join us on Nov. 30, 2023, at SVI for a gripping discussion with graphic novelist Michael Cherkas on his latest work, "Red Harvest." Explore the historical-fiction masterpiece shedding light on the Holodomor, a tragic chapter in Ukrainian history. Cherkas, renowned for "The Silent Invasion," weaves true stories to illustrate this dark period under Stalin's regime. The terror-famine, a result of forced collectivization, claimed 4 million lives. As we witness current Ukrainian war horrors, it's crucial to remember past Russian aggression.

Cherkas's journey began in 2008, gaining momentum during the 2020 pandemic, completing just before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Through protagonist Mykola Kovalenko, a Ukrainian immigrant and famine survivor, Cherkas vividly illustrates the cost of resisting Stalin.

Don't miss this eye-opening event featuring "Red Harvest," a Publishers Weekly Top 10 pick. A Q&A session follows, moderated by Sophia Isajiw.

Purchase "Red Harvest" at the launch; all proceeds go to Canada-Ukraine Foundation’s Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.
