Lidia Liber (Boyko) 1922-2021 Celebrating a life well lived!
March 10th, 2022 would have marked Lidia Liber’s 100th birthday. Sadly, she passed away on October 27, 2021 just 3 months shy of this milestone. However, as her family we feel it’s important to celebrate her long and fulfilling life on this, her birthday.
Lidia was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and best friend. She and her beloved Roman Liber† (1982) were active members of St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral for over 65 years. The Katedra was the central and single place where their lives revolved, raised a family and worked tirelessly within the Ukrainian community.
A quiet, unassuming lady, Lidia was an active member of many committees, organizations and groups. She was a long-standing member of the Ukrainian Women’s Organization, Kn. Olha Branch where she held numerous positions – from the bazaar committee, baking and cooking, bingo, dances and organizing for every event. They supported the Ukrainian School Ridna Shkola by helping with concerts and children’s activities.
When you look around the church you will see numerous hand embroidered ensembles throughout. These were beautifully and delicately hand embroidered by Lidia. She was an expert at Ukrainian embroidery of all types and continued to maintain this craft until nearly the age of 90 when her eye sight began to fail.
Prior to coming to Canada Lidia traveled the same war-torn paths that many of our families did to get to a new land, filled with hope and peace. She survived the Holodomor of 1932-33, WWII, displaced persons camps in Germany. She never forgot her true home-land – Ukraine. Leaving behind parents, siblings and many relatives she stayed in touch with them until her final days and always supporting them materially over the years. In her final days she was in contact with her family and had the opportunity to say her good-byes to them and her beloved homeland.
Canada was good to her giving her the ability to practice her Orthodox Christian faith, work, raise a family, contribute and build the Ukrainian community and live out her life peacefully.

Памятаймо! Ліду Лібер (Бойко) (1922- 2021).
Цього року, 10 березня 2022 року, ми мали-би відсвяткувати столітні уродини пані Ліди Лібер.
Пані Ліда була доброю жінкою, чудовою мамою, улюбленою бабусею і прабабусею, і доброю подругою багатьом із нас.
Понад 65 років Ліда зі своїм покійним чоловіком Романом† (1982) брали активну участь в житті Катедри Св’ятого Володимира. Церква була важливою частиною їхнього життя. Тут після війни вони виховали своїх дітей Олю і Олеся, і активно долучалися до будівництва Української Громади в Торонті.
На протязі багатьох років тиха і скромна Ліда була активною членкиньою Союзу Українок Канади, відділу Княгині Ольги, брала участь у комітетах, базарах, і групах куховарства та вишивки. Ліда і Роман багато років підтримували Українську Рідну Школу імені Тараса Шевченка, допомогали танцювальним колективам з концертами.
Допоки не ослабли очі, Ліда любила вишивати. Навіть тепер в Катедрі можна побачити її творіння: чудові і ніжні вишивки які пані Ліда протягом майже 90 років вишила своїми руками.
Життєвий шлях провів пані Ліду не легкими дорогами. Вона пережила Голодомор 1932-1933 років, так само як і багато наших батьків вижила у Другі Світові Війні, пройшовши Німецькі табори. І лише приїхавши до Канади знайшла мир. Тут вона отримала нагоду працювати, мати родину, вільно молитися і будувати Українську Громаду.
Ніколи не забувши свою Батьківщину – Україну, лишивши батьків, сестер, братів і всю родину, до останніх днів свого життя вона була в постійному контакті з ними. Часто переписувалася, а в допомогу висилала пачки і гроші.
Нажаль 27 жовтня 2021 року, три місяці перед своїми 100 літніми уродинами, спокійно і мирно проживши своє життя, пані Ліда відійшла у вічність.
Вічна їй Пам'ять!
Нехай їй буде пухом канадійська земля.
Ліда на завжди залишилася в наших серцях.
