Quarterly Meeting Summary
Dear friends and parishioners,
Here is a short summary of what was discussed at the Dec 4th, 2022 Quarterly Meeting.
The meeting was well-attended with many newcomers who, while not yet members of the parish, listened with particular interest to a meeting of the parish that is under our conciliar model of Church governance. Members and guests enjoyed a delicious Lenten meal, provided by Heavenly Perogy and the meeting closed with words of thanks and encouragement from Fr. Jaroslaw, a closing prayer and a blessing from His Grace, Bp. Andriy.
Faith & Temple Projects
Fr. Jaroslaw Buciora, dean of the Cathedral, presented a report on behalf of the clergy. Franko Diakowsky, 1st VP, touched on the weekly service schedule, some improvements to worship life (ex. Acquisition of high-quality incense) and presented a brief outline of several projects:
The Duodenary Feast and Lenten Icon Project together with mounting these and lampadae in the klirosies;
We are working on a very short and compact Altar server guide to help train those who serve;
Also working on a proposal to reinvigorate (or in the case of the Chapel to build) a church kiosk, with icons, crosses, prayer books, vigil lamps and the like.
Finances & Business
Annie Mishchenko presented an overview of the financial state of the parish and nominating committee was selected for Annual Meeting, scheduled for April 30, 2023.
As you can see, with so many new projects we are looking for more good people to help bring them to fruition. Please consider the idea of joining us - be it in on the new parish council or in committees!
Community Projects
John Holuk presented an update on the Hearts4Ukraine project including the new Food Basket program which is opening soon at SVCC. He also highlighted the fine and important work in coordination with generous donors, corporate sponsors and the region of Halton to care for and welcome into new homes families from Ukraine. In addition to the Food Basket program, John mentioned the upcoming St. Nicholas’ Afternoon on Dec. 17 at SVCC for the Halton region families, donors and volunteers.
Parish council president, Greg Blysniuk, presented an update on the Delmanor Senior’s Residence Project and explained that work with the Town of Oakville is continuing.
St. Volodymyr Organization Reports
Slavko Adamec presented a report of the past year at St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre. Peter Bayrachny presented an overview of the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery business and gave an important announcement: the cost of lots will be going up in the new year; and that there will be a new section of “single” lots opening in the new year. Myk Jemetz gave a report on St. Volodymyr Ukrainian School, recently relocated to Etobicoke, inviting families to attend their St. Nicholas’ Day concert (also on Dec. 17 — but in the Cathedral Hall).
