Sunday of the Holy Fathers
While last Sunday the holy Forefathers were commemorated, this Sunday we remember the genealogy of Jesus Christ. We learn on this day that Jesus is both a direct descendent of Adam, the first human, and a direct descendant of King David (through His mother Mary, despite female genealogies not being tracked in the Judaic tradition), the purpose of which is to show us how Jesus truly was, and is, the fulfillment of Old Testament prophesies. Great are the accomplishments of faith, for the Three Holy Youths rejoiced in the flames as though at the waters of rest, and the prophet Daniel appeared, a shepherd to the lions as though they were sheep. So by their prayers, O Christ God, save our souls!
